Event Description

Participant ability: Participants should be comfortable paddling 12km without an extended “break” in standard sea kayaks and with spray decks – and that participants are experienced in being rescued whilst using a spraydeck

Preparation: The beauty of this event is that we will be paddling down and back up the Tyne on a Saturday early evening in December. It will be dark and what some people refer to as cold. We need to have light sticks for our boat that will last the 3 hours, wear a headtorch in case we need it and with adequate clothing for the season

Outline: The plan is to paddle from Derwenthaugh into Newcastle, through all of the bridges and return to Derwenthaugh. We intend to get on when there is very little ebb tide and return with very little flood tide.

Hopefully participants will make the event “Santa Centred” with lights and fancy dress.
