Welcome to the Essex Witch, the inaugural Ocean Race in the Eastern Region, on Saturday 16 August 2025, established by Dougie Herbert and hosted by the Clacton-on-Sea Sailing Club.
The Event is a Grade One triangular course (3 laps, approx 15km) and as such suitable for entry level competitors, depending on conditions and athlete competency.
The Event forms part of the GB Ocean Racing Team assessment series.
This is the inaugural event, the event will be conducted under Paddle UK and the ORUK Committee rules and regulations.

Competitors are to use the Sailing club car park or the pay and display parking nearest the Sailing club– this is a ticket and pay. There is a Public Toilet between the Sailing club and parking and local Café’s adjacent to the car park, and local cafes adjacent to the car park.

The Event will follow the ICF Classes in SUP, Outrigger & Surfski:
- U18 Men & Women
- U23 Men & Women
- Senior Men & Women
- Veteran Men & Women (Over 35 – 54)
- Masters Men & Women (Over 55)
- Open Doubles Mixed
Safety equipment will be carried throughout the race and checked at Registration:
- PFD
- Leash
- Whistle
- Means of communication - VHF or phone in waterproof bag

- Bib (do not cut or alter the Bib)
Competitors will make a declaration of competency and agree to the event disclaimer on entry. All paddlers will have either valid membership of Paddle UK or home nations, an event day ticket or club affiliation. By entering paddlers agree to comply with the instructions of the Race Director and event staff, all of whom are volunteers.
In the event of unsafe conditions, unsuitable water quality or any other event threatening factors, the Event Director and Event Safety Officer will discuss and decide whether the event can continue or be cancelled.
